Smartphones are often less secure than computers, but there’s no reason they should be. If anything, mobile devices should have more protection. Smartphones have a much bigger risk of getting lost or damaged. We can’t prevent accidents, but we can help you protect your data. Here’s what you should know about NordLocker’s new Android app.
It’s been a long journey, but here we are. NordLocker’s native Android app is out. “Wait, doesn’t NordLocker already have a mobile app?” Great question, and yes, it does. About six months ago, we released Web Access, a platform for accessing your NordLocker Cloud files from anywhere: your device, a web-browser, or even your smartphone.
So you had access to a limited, web-based mobile app. Now you can experience NordLocker on the go in full.
We’re still improving the app and planning to introduce several key features in 2022. But here’s what you can do with it today:
See all your lockers, their storage capacity, and the date they were last modified at a glance
Rename your lockers, create folders, and upload files
Rename, move, or download files to your device
Read PDFs in the app
Search inside lockers
Reach your Nord Account and billing details in a click
Reset the master password and the recovery key
Enable auto-lock. The app will lock itself when not in use
NordLocker’s mobile squad worked on this app for eleven months. Even after the release, the team is hard at work developing a couple of key features like sharing. And as soon as that’s done, the team will start working on the iOS app as well as some other, less-urgent Android features.
If you would like to know more, check out the interview with Gabriele Akstinaitė, mobile squad lead. She talked us through the development process and revealed what challenges await.
Like we already said, the security of your device is key. Your master password unlocks the app, while your Nord Account works as a second layer of security. You can also use it to enable different MFA methods like single-use backup codes. We’ll eventually be working on enabling unlocking NordLocker via biometrics.
Mobile apps don’t support local lockers. You can read PDFs without downloading them and upload files to your cloud lockers, but to work on a file on your mobile device, you will have to download a decrypted version.
Of course, we hope you like the app and use it every day. But if you want to share your thoughts about the app, positive or otherwise, email us [email protected] or simply use the feedback form in the desktop app.
